Gilbert's County Line Ice
House Opens
the Christmas Party Season!
For Houston bikers, the Holiday season began
this year at the Gilbert's
County Line ice house on Friday, December 10th.
The decorated tree was the center point of the
decor, with 'icicle lights' strung around the edge of the room.
The tables were all set up for the meal and they even had Christmas
table cloths on them.
Although this is the first Christmas season
under the direction of the new owners, they have figured out quickly
what bikers like. Food!
The free buffet was generous, plentiful and
good. Ham, deer sausage, potato salad, condiment trays (I said
condiMENT, silly!) mini tacos, chili con queso and much, much more.
You would think that when a hundred hungry bikers haul away that much
food from the buffet that it would start running out . . . .not when
Robert and Deidre are in charge. The food remained plentiful
throughout the evening.
Christmas wouldn't seem like Christmas without
a little chill in the air - and we had plenty of it that night.
The 'Line has an antique wood stove that can really throw out the
heat. Sidling up next to the wood stove was a popular pasttime
that night.
Dangerous Dan and group provided the live music
entertainment. Once the food had time to settle a little and
the beer time to kick in, the partiers began to kick up their heels
on the dance floor.
Jane presented Deidre and Robert a gift on behalf
of the staff - not only do these two know how to treat bikers, they
also seem to know how to treat their employees. I felt all choked
up, but wasn't sure if it was the emotion of the moment or the fact
I was eating again.
Later conversation with the partiers seem to
bear out that while many were "feeling no pain" that night that many
did feel some pain the next day. Many of the partiers, included
those of us who attend these functions only to foster freedom of the
press, atttended the Los
Carnales M/C party at Peck's the following night and then made
the San
Jacinto High Rollers Toy Run on Sunday.
The new Gilbert's County Line has expanded its
menu and the hours for food service. Richard, the cook, does
an outstanding job cooking. If you order the hamburger, you
might want to plan on sharing it with someone - it's huge. The
newest item, the Reuben sandwich, is a work of art.
For your convenience, the phone number at the
'Line is 281-398-4800.
